John has been helping businesses and individual clients in the Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, the Tri-Cities and surrounding regions for over 35 years. He has extensive experience in all aspects of general practice. John focuses his practice on corporate commercial, real estate and business transition planning and also enjoys working with entrepreneurs, developers, real estate professionals and private individuals who require reliable responsive legal counsel.
Over the decades, John has worked with hundreds of corporate clients, many from a second generation of clients, who have looked to John for professional and practical advice. He has advised on complex corporate deals, valued in the multi-millions, private personal and family business matters.
John is also a certified Family Law Mediator and Arbitrator and supports the growth of Alternate Dispute Resolution programs including a Collaborative Law model as part of the Family Law services at Becker & Company.
In his pursuit to continue providing practical succession planning advice for family businesses, John has completed the Family Enterprise Advisor Program at UBC’s Sauder School of Business. John was also pleased to be accepted into The Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFE), The Canadian Association of Farm Advisors (CAFA) organizations and the Institute of Family Enterprise Advisors.
John is a visible member of the community and has served many causes. Past activities include board membership of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services Council, Maple Ridge Treatment Centre, Maple Ridge Parks & Recreation Commission, President of the local Kinsman Service Club and later Provincial Governor, Chair of the Board of Governors of Meadowridge Independent School, member of the Pitt Meadows Agricultural Advisory Committee and volunteer legal advisor for a number of social housing societies. John also supports and encourages all members of the Firm in their pursuit of giving back to their local communities.
He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science , and he received his law degree in 1980 from the University of British Columbia. In 1980 John moved to the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows area to practice law where he built one of the region’s largest and oldest law firms.
